Built specifically for hybrid fitness racing, the Adizero Dropset Elite sees two of adidas’ leading footwear innovations – Adizero and Dropset – unite to offer speed and stability in one shoe
Developed for and alongside some of the sport’s leading athletes, the shoe made its debut in Melbourne as Tim Wenisch secured victory in the HYROX Elite 15 Male Singles in December 2025
It will be worn by elite hybrid athletes throughout the season with the brand-new design set to become available for ambitious hybrid athletes from March 18th
The Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 4 HYROX is the first shoe Puma has engineered specifically with HYROX racing in mind, blending its race-day tech with features aimed at hybrid fitness events. It pairs an updated full-length carbon PWRPLATE with all-new NITROFOAM™ Elite cushioning for a springy yet controlled ride that feels fast in the run segments and supportive through reps.
The full-coverage PUMAGRIP outsole delivers standout traction on indoor surfaces, with a lug pattern meant to handle everything from sled work to lunges with confidence. A slightly wider platform and more stable fit than some carbon racers also help keep movements grounded in the stations. The shoe’s stack (around 40mm) and carbon plate combine for strong propulsion, though athletes who prefer a flatter, more tactile feel might find it feels “taller” than other options.
Overall, this model hits a performance sweet spot for HYROX racers who want carbon-plate speed without sacrificing grip and multi-station control. It’s now my personal choice for HYROX races.
The Mizuno Wave Rebellion Pro 3 is perhaps an unconventional choice for HYROX, yet it’s extremely popular with some athletes – including many at the very top of the sport. Its extreme rocker geometry and aggressive heel bevel are designed to promote rapid turnover and forward momentum, making it particularly fast in the run segments, and the grip is better than many expect.
The main trade-off is stability – the high 40 mm stack height can make stations like lunges and wall balls, or courses with heavy cornering, feel less secure. Still, for athletes chasing maximum running efficiency, it’s a compromise many are willing to make. Just a word of caution though – they wont suit all running styles. If you are more of a heel striker you likely won’t get as much benefit from the shoe as a forefoot striker might.
Another popular choice is the Saucony Endorphin Pro 4, a top-tier carbon-plated racing shoe for HYROX athletes wanting strong running speed without sacrificing too much stability or grip in the stations.
Its PWRRUN HG foam, paired with a full-length carbon plate, delivers a propulsive ride and smooth roll thanks to Saucony’s SPEEDROLL geometry. Grip is solid for the sled push and pull, while the broader forefoot platform offers a touch more stability than many super shoes. Durability is decent for a race shoe, with reinforced outsole rubber improving lifespan compared to earlier models, though it doesn’t feel quite as cushioned as the Endorphin Pro 3 – a model that was extremely popular among early adopters in the sport.
Hoka Mach 6 is
an excellent, versatile choice for HYROX, favored for its lightweight design, responsive supercritical foam, and stable, low-stack platform suitable for both running and station work. Its 5mm drop provides stability for lunges and wall balls, while the rubber outsole offers good grip for sled pushes.
This shoe is all about stability. If you overpronate, require additional support in your running shoes and are not concerned by racing in a super fast shoe, opt for something like the Hoka Mach 6.
Despite it being a stability-focussed daily shoe, the Mach 6 has an energetic feel with a good amount of stiffness for when you pick up the pace. It's a quick, responsive shoe that has great stability and a grippy outsole that you can use for all your training and it'll cost you a fraction of the cost of carbon-plated alternatives.
Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 is considered an excellent choice for HYROX, often cited as a top "nylon-plate workhorse" due to its mix of high energy return (78.2% in the forefoot) for running and stability for station exercises. It provides a fast, responsive feel with good grip, making it a strong alternative to carbon-plated options.
